The month of Tishrei is upon us, which means, of course, the High Holidays, Days of Awe (Yamim Noraim, in Hebrew), or, as is said in Israel, "hachagim," the holidays.
In this month we are disrupted from our regular routines of school and work and required to participate in extensive prayer, thought, introspection, and reflection. We ask for forgiveness from our family, friends, and God. We look for ways we can improve our behavior toward ourselves and others.
There is no question that all of us, from the average Jew to the scholarly rabbi, can use help in understanding this time, making the best use of it, and sharing that knowledge with others. With that in mind, we have developed a thorough guide to the Yamim Noraim, with everything from practical tips on how to conduct yourself and what the holidays mean, to detailed guides for teaching specific stories of the Bible that are recounted during this time.
