The Kogod Research Center is now accepting applications for research fellowships based at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America in New York. This Fellowship is an opportunity for North American scholars who share an interest in exploring the major challenges of contemporary Jewish life to bring their own academic work into the framework of the Institute, and signals an expansion of the Institute’s world-renowned Kogod Research Center beyond the Jerusalem campus. Fellows in this program will be able to contribute to the intellectual culture of the Institute while also benefiting from collaboration with other faculty as well as the rich shelf of Hartman educational resources.
Fellows will commit to two days per week in residence at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America offices in midtown Manhattan. The bulk of their time will be devoted to their own ongoing academic research, while their presence in the offices will strengthen this environment in which the generation of ideas and their delivery in educational programs take place side by side. Fellows will also learn together in a biweekly seminar and teach in SHI-NA programs.
Fellows’ academic work should correlate with one of three critical research topics undertaken by the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America: Peoplehood and Community, The Jewish Encounter with The Other, and Tradition and Modernity. We are interested in engaging scholars from a broad range of disciplines, so long as the research can be applied to the challenges and the opportunities presented by contemporary Jewish life.
