Shalom Hartman Institute is pleased to present weekly Torah commentary throughout 5777 by Rabbi Avital Hochstein, a research fellow at the Institute and a member of the first cohort of the Hartman-HaMidrasha at Oranim Beit Midrash for Israeli Rabbis in 2016.
Rabbi Hochstein's commentary, developed in association with Mechon Hadar of New York City, will be updated throughout 5777.
In a recent interview (Hebrew), Hochstein said that a rabbi's main tools are the Torah, Talmud, and Midrash.
Similarly, her philosophy toward learning is also threefold. She said that she focuses on three layers: the personal, community, and national.
She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Talmud at Bar-Ilan University, and also serves as director for Mechon Hadar in Israel.
