Orit Kamir, a Shalom Hartman Institute Fellow who describes herself as an indefatigable idealist, legalist, feminist, lecturer and one who loves trips, cats, movies and friends, launched her new book May 25 at Bookworm in Tel Aviv.
This new book, published by Carmel Books, is entitled The Dignity of Adam and Eve: Israeli Legal and Social Feminism (Heb). Tzvi Trieger, a lecturer at the Management College, author and feminist, addreseds the crowd.
The book, a continuation of her 2004 work, Israeli Honor and Dignity, describes and develops an Israeli feminism that belongs to the here and now. This is a feminism based on the core value of Israeli society – the dignity of man – and develops a close dialogue with the country’s Basic Law.
The book analyzes the murder of women based on honor, rape, sexual harassment, intimidating harassment, pornography and choosing one’s name after marriage. The cover of the book portrays the gap between the icon of the pioneering early Israeli woman and the suffering of many women in Israel today.
