North American Jewish school leaders to explore ‘vision’

Vision Forum brings together Heads of School and key board members to address significant questions facing world Jewry in general and Jewish education in particular. Over an eight-day period, participants will contemplate the critical challenges facing Jews today

The first Vision Forum group at Shalom Hartman Institute, designed specifically for North America’s top day school leadership, arrived at the Institute July 1.
Vision Forum brings together Heads of School and key board members to address significant questions facing world Jewry in general and Jewish education in particular. Over an eight-day period, participants will contemplate the critical challenges facing Jews today.
The participants will also have the opportunity to share best practices and learn from their colleagues, conduct roundtable discussions on important questions of policy, combat the common experience of professional burnout, and strengthen their roles as leaders in the Diaspora Jewish community.
The program’s inaugural theme is the "Boundaries of Judaism." The participants will explore this theme daily in morning beit midrash sessions, through afternoon case studies with external lecturers and Hartman Institute scholars, as well as in varied evening programs. One of the evening programs will include a meeting with Israeli school principals, while another will explore the topic, "Yom Hashoah and Yom Hazikaron – Competing Foundational Narratives for Understanding Modern Israel," with Institute Co-Director Rabbi Dr. Donniel Hartman.
