2008-9 Lay Leadership Global Beit Midrash underway

This year’s Global Beit Midrash program has begun, with new sites and cities joining this highly successful mode of distance learning for North American Jewish community leaders.

Once a month, top lecturers from Shalom Hartman Institute, including Rabbi Prof. David Hartman , Rabbi Dr. Donniel Hartman , Micah Goodman and Rabbi Rachel Sabath Beit-Halachmi , transmit their knowledge to hundreds of lay leaders across North America by video conference.

This year’s theme “Eight Dilemmas of Membership” tackles the central questions pertinent to this topic, including: Who is a Jew?, the Law of Return, conversion, boundaries, identity, ethnicity and religion. Two sessions are held for each lecture, so participants on the East and West coasts can participate at comfortable hours.
