Shalom Hartman Institute of North America is pleased to announce that effective August 27, 2018, Jennifer Raskas has joined our team as Washington, D.C. Manager. Jennifer joins us as we embark on an innovative and exciting new partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, developed as a strategic response to the unique challenges facing American and Jewish civic societies within the dynamic of the Greater Washington, D.C. area.

In this new position, Jennifer will be responsible for overseeing program development, management and administration in Washington and the surrounding communities. 

“We are so excited to welcome Jennifer to our growing East Coast team” said Rachel Jacoby Rosenfield, Executive Vice President of SHI North America. “Jennifer’s deep experience building strong relationships between American Jews and Israel will enable us to leverage our expertise and create meaningful communal discourse in the Washington D.C. community. We are thrilled to have found someone so passionate and well-suited to this role.” 

Jennifer joins SHI North America from the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington, where for the last two years she served as the Director of the Israel Action Center. She has extensive experience in Jewish communal learning and both formal and informal Jewish education. As an educator and a leader, she has brought educational value to many institutions and is a co-founder of WISDOM (Women’s Initiative for Sustained Dialogue on Orthodoxy and Modernity). 

“Hartman is an exceptional institution that enriches Jewish life, elevates Jewish thought and builds Jewish community through compelling and inspiring learning,” said Jennifer. “I am thrilled to be joining the Hartman team, and am excited to help bring Hartman’s stellar scholars, curriculum and programs to our incredible Greater Washington community.”  

Jennifer is a graduate of Columbia University, Magna Cum Laude, with a BA in psychology and political science, and received a Master’s in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government where she studied democracy, leadership, management, and Middle East studies. She lives in the Washington, D.C. area with her husband and two children.
