Hartman High Schools’ Excellence Program Opens 10th Year
The Hartman high schools’ program of enhanced humanities, social science, and science learning for a select group of ninth graders has begun its tenth year.
The program comprises 47 students who volunteered and were selected for the program, which this year will enhance its humanities and social science curriculum, as well as science.
The weekly classes combine curious and ambitious students in the in-depth study with a diverse staff of teachers drawn from universities, as well as working-world experts in law and computer science.
The social atmosphere of the two groups in the program, which is composed of equal numbers of students from the Charles E. Smith HS for Boys and the Midrashiya HS for Girls provides a place of mutual respect and confidence for joint learning.
The program also is a laboratory for collaborative teaching and learning practices, peer assessments, and removing boundaries between the schools and the outside world, among other experimental innovations.
