The first cohort of 21 participants in the new Shalom Hartman Rabbinical Students Seminar began its yearlong study course Tuesday, October 27, 2009, with dinner, a getting-to-know-you session, and a discussion of the Zohar with Hartman Institute’s Melila Hellner-Eshed.
 
The 21 students, representing seven rabbinical schools and advanced degree programs in Israel, include Orthodox, Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist, and others, meeting the program’s goal of bringing together students who wouldn’t normally interact during their Israel residencies. The majority of the students will become rabbis in North America after completing their studies.
